Welcome: Welcome to the Danville High School Cheerleading page!  It is with great pride that we cheer on the amazing traditions of excellence our fellow student athletes and scholars work to build each season.  We proudly represent the spirit of Danville High School!  Additionally, over the past ten years we our cheerleading teams have worked very hard to become a strong, successful program in the state of Kentucky.  In 2009, our cheerleading team became the first team in school history to compete at the K.A.P.O.S. state level.  This team went on to place 5th in the state of Kentucky.  In 2010, the team won the K.A.P.O.S. Region 12 competition for the first time in school history, and went on to place 7th in the state. The girls' latest regional win was in 2012, and they placed 8th in the state competition that followed.

Tryout Requirements: Candidates must meet all KHSAA and DHS Athletic requirements, as well as follow team guidelines.  Tryouts are held each May and team size/s will be selected that day.  A medical release form is required to try out and a current athletic physical must be submitted on or before the first organized practice in the summer.   Candidates must be strong students and athletes, with a basic knowledge of cheerleading skills, rhythm, and positive energy.  (Better known as 'pep!')  Gymnastic ability in tumbling (backhandsprings, etc.) is strongly recommended, but not required.

Basic Team Guidelines/Season Schedule: DHS Cheerleaders are expected to be classy, positive and respectful at all times.  Practices generally begin in May and go through summer, with the exception of the required summer dead period.  Practices resume in late July, and continue until the end of basketball season in March.  Expect to practice 6-10 hours per week.  Cheerleaders will cheer all home and away football games during the fall, and all home girls and boys basketball games in the winter.  Additional games may be added.  Cheerleaders who are selected for the competition team can expect additional practices and several weekend competitions in January and February.  All cheerleaders are expected to participate in all fundraisers, attend all practices, and maintain a C average with good behavior in ALL classes in order to cheer games and/or competitions.
