Academic Team and Governor's Cup Competitions

Requirements:
Academic Team involves regular season thru district, regional, state, and national competitions. It has almost universal participation by High Schools in the state. Specific competitions include the following: Quick Recall and Quiz Bowl team members need to be willing to practice. Future problem solving is a team problem solving competition which is based on Paul Torrence's Creativity Problem Solving Model and has a national competition. Composition with each competitor writing a composition on a given topic. Written Assessment is an area which involves multiple choice tests on the following subjects: Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Arts/Humanities.
Activities:
Quick Recall - This is a team competition using buzzers similar to "In the Know" or "Jeopardy". Team members need to be solid students in a specific area and be willing to practice. See Mr. Kremer.

Future Problem Solving - This is a team written problem solving competition; based on Paul Torrence's creativity problem solving model. There is also an individual Future Problem Solving competition at the state level.

Composition - Each competitor writes a composition on a given topic. Although the form may be specified as editorial, article, persuasive speech, the format is usually logical and rewards organized writing which also has creative writing style.

Written Assessments - This area involves multiple choice tests on the following subjects: language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, and arts and humanities.
